TechDoc WebView 2010

TechDoc WebView is a client-server solution that connects to a TechDoc database from an Internet Browser and search and find document records stored in that database. View the document properties, view the documents, print them, use markup and collaborate with other people.

TechDoc WebView connects to a TechDoc database, so it needs at least one TechDoc desktop version running on the server side.

The TechDoc WebView consists out of two parts: An administrator module running on the server side and a .Net application running on the server, the user connect to the server from a Web Browser, no client software needed.

The Administrator module lets you configure TechDoc WebView. It has several Tabs. First the general tab, here you set the connection to your database. Just select the database type and set the path to the database. In the general tab you configure the settings for the AutoVue jVue Web Viewer.

The second tab is the User tab. This is to control what different Users can do when they run TechDoc WebView. Each User will belong to a Group, and each group will use it own GUI in the Viewer. This way you can control things like: Who can Markup a document, who can join the Collaboration? Here you select the User Table in your database, the username and password field and the field that controls the Group the user belongs too. Next you select the Group Table, Group ID and name and the jVue GUI this groups will see.  The actual setting of users and groups the user belongs to etc is done in TechDoc.

The next Tab lets you set the Document information found in your database. You select the table that holds the document information. You set the Document ID files, and the file path and filename fields. Also you have to set the location of the document files on your server. You type the folder for all files in the TechDoc database, usually this is a share. The next three Tabs handle the forms the users will see when they log on to the server where TechDoc WebView runs. Using the Search form tab, you can control the fields each user group can use to search the database for documents. In the Result form you decide the columns that are shown to the user after the search enabling them to choose the right document to view. Also the number of records in the list can be set. From the Result Form the user can select to see more properties of a document in the Detail From. You control the properties they will see in the Properties Form.  After save all settings are stored in the TechDocWeb.INI file.

The user connects to the TechDoc WebView server by typing in the correct URL in the Internet browser.  And the login screen appears.

The user types the Username and Password, these then are checked in the database. If the user details are correct the user enters the Search Form. Here the user can enter the fields he is allowed to use to search for documents in the TechDoc database. The screens you see here are just samples.

There are 4 buttons: Result to go to the ResultForm, Clear to clear the search information, Search to start a Search and Logout.

If nothing is typed all documents will be found. If something is typed the search will be done on these properties, the result can be set to a maximum per page:

In the Result screen you see the columns that are set by the administrator in the Web Config tools. Also for each document there are to buttons. The Spy glass will open the document in the Web Viewer. The List button (or the Properties button on top) will open the Properties Form that will show you the properties of the document, as set by the administrator. You can use next and previous to see the properties of each document.

The TechDoc WebView Viewer shows the document after clicking the Spyglass in the ResultForm or the ShowFile button in the PropertiesForm. Depending on which group the users belong to the Viewer is loaded with the GUI that has been selected in the Web Config. In the standard installation we have 4 different GUI’s,

One that only allows users only to View files, a second one that allows Viewing and Printing, a third that allows Viewing, Printing and Markup and the fourth one allowing Viewing, Printing, Markup and Collaboration.

You can make your own GUI’s in a simple way. Here are samples of the four GUIs:
